WDS Company Academy

What Is The WDS Company Academy?

Company Academy is for the more serious dancer who is looking to add an extra level of performance and technique to their dance training and studio experience. It gives dancers the opportunity to perform more than in the year end recital, to express their passion for dance through different experiences including festivals, competitions, dance conventions and extra training in technique, performance and teacher training.

Who Is It For?

There will be three levels of company: Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Junior is for ages 9+ and must have dance experience. Intermediate and Senior is based on technique, ability and experience that will be decided through yearly auditions.

Being a part of Company is an additional commitment that not only dancers, but our dance parents, must make. There will be an expectation that dancers have exceptional attendance and that no classes are missed during the months leading up to performances. More details on this, including a commitment contract, will be available to those who join.

When Is Company Class?

Company class for each level will be in our weekly dance schedule at a dedicated class time but will follow a slightly different schedule than the regular dance year. Class length will range from one (1) hour to one and a quarter (1.25) hours depending on size and level of dance and will be strictly a choreography class.

How Do I Join?

To be a member of Company a dancer must also be registered for a total of four (4) or more regular classes. Requirements are as follows:

1)   Must be registered in Jazz and Contemporary, Lyrical, or Modern

2)   Must take a minimum of one technique class. This can include a Jazz/Contemporary technique class or a Ballet class.

3)   You must be enrolled in a combination of 5 or more classes, including one Jazz, one contemporary, and one lyrical class, one technique class, then a company class, and one additional class of your choice.

What Is Included?

For the 2023/2024 dance season, Company will include registration fee for 2 festivals and /or competitions, studio class time, choreography for 2 performance pieces in the styles of Jazz and Contemporary or Lyrical (dependent on age and group) and a piece of company clothing.

Any registration fees for additional festivals and competitions, beyond what is outlined above, will be an extra cost to the dancer.

These dances will be performed in festival/competition, recitals as well as other opportunities that are presented throughout the year.
